Music Scholarships

The Music Department at Morningside College offers significant scholarship funding for talented students of all majors who are involved in musical ensembles.

Celebration of Excellence Award Information

Music talent grants alone are available in amounts up to $4000.00 per year, renewable for all four years of a degree program.

An audition is required (Please contact the Admissions Department)

Audition Days for entrance in the fall of 2009 are:
1. January 16-17, 2009

2. January 30-31, 2009

February 13-14, 2009

4. Februray 24-25, 2009: Performing Arts  Events

5. March 13-14, 2009

Audition Requirements

Brass or Woodwind:

Two contrasting musical selections:

one showing lyrical abilities,

the other showing technical abilities. 

(These selections may come from the same composition.)

A chromatic scale covering full range of the instrument

All major scales

Sight-reading (majors only)

Percussion:

An excerpt (30-60 seconds) of a solo or etude on as many of the following                                                                       instruments as possible:

                       :: Snare drum
                       :: Timpani
                       :: Keyboard instrument
                       :: Multiple percussion

           A chromatic scale on a keyboard instrument

           All major scales (keyboard instrument)

           40 snare drum rudiments (majors only)

           Sight-reading on snare drum and marimba (majors only)

 

Piano:

Two works, or movements of larger works, from different periods from the standard classical repertoire. (Preferably memorized.)

Sight-reading (majors only)

Strings:

Two contrasting musical selections which demonstrate your strengths as an instrumentalist, including your technical ability, your tone, and your musicianship.

All majors scales (memorized)

Sight-reading

Voice:

Two songs performed from memory:

One art song or aria in a foreign language (memorized)

One art song in English (memorized)
