SEMINAR FACULTY
Joseph Shufro is the orchestra conductor and cello instructor at Morningside
College. He has been on the Morningside College faculty since 1977.
He also established the Morningside Electronic Music Lab and teaches
classes in its use.
Mr. Shufro is music director and conductor of the Siouxland Youth Symphony.
He is
principal cellist of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and has appeared
both as soloist and guest
conductor with that orchestra. He was a member of the Canadian Chamber
Ensemble
and Trio Da Capo.
A native of New York City, Mr. Shufro did his undergraduate study at
the Oberlin Conservatory
of Music and received his master's degree from the University of Texas
at Austin.
His principal teacher at both institutions was George Neikrug.

James March, piano professor at Morningside since1986,
holds the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees from
the University
of Iowa. He has appeared as soloist with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra,
Minneapolis Civic Orchestra, Sioux City Symphony, Bloomington-Normal
Symphony, as well as the University ofIowa and Morningside College
Chamber Orchestras. Since 1982 he has performed extensively as part
of the March Duo piano team with his
wife Kathryn. The March Duo recently released a highly acclaimed recording
of the Brahms Hungarian Dances. Dr.March’s principal teachers
include Willem Ibes, Robert Koopman and Kenneth Amada.

ELIGIBILITY
Pre-formed groups
The seminar is primarily intended for high-school students. Applications
will be taken from groups of 3-8 players, including ensembles for strings
only or for strings, piano, and wind combinations. Group members are
expected to have practiced their music as individuals and rehearsed
as a group prior to the seminar.
Individuals and partial groups are welcome to apply. The organizers
will make every effort to put together groups for all successful applicants.
Students will be assigned to groups and will receive copies of parts
in time to prepare for the seminar.
Seminar
fee of $50 per person covers all costs. Meals and rooms on
the Morningside College campus are included in this special low fee.
Application is available online. Online applications will
be considered complete upon receipt of the application fee.
Applicants will be notified
of their acceptance.
